With a delightful diver on the cover page, the Ocean Booklet is in a beautiful blue and opens up to a colorful ocean bed on one side with a wave pocket on the other side.
The ocean booklet contains ten sea animals from a fish to an octopus, to whale, a sea horse, starfish, crab, turtle, dolphin, seal and sea otter. The ocean bed itself has exposed rocks, corals, planktons as pockets where sea animals can be placed. This page can be a good talking point to initiate the ocean floor/bed topic. On the right page is a wave pocket, a small net fabric movement game and a fishing rod . The fishing rod is magnetic in nature and can be used to ‘catch’ all of the sea animals. This is a great hand -eye coordination game.
Buttons under the net can be moved two and fro to learn concepts such as:
1) Slow and Fast
2) Left and Right
3) Quarter, Half, Three-Fourth and Whole/Full
Basic math such as counting , addition and subtraction can be taught to the child in a fun way along with this booklet. The video tutorial shows how to go about this.
Now, what’s interesting is that all of these 10 sea animals are finger puppets as well and can be used for a fun free play and story time session etc. Popping the finger puppets and moving the fingers allows some finger exercise time for the child.
What’s on your index finger ? Can you move the sea otter?
As always, all detachable pieces have safe pockets to be put into when not in use.
